The farmers de la Madeleine

The peasant common Sense

Transmit

Since 2020, the Village de la Madeleine has been developing a peasant farm project, the educational purpose of which is to transmit the spirit and know-how of the peasantry to as many people as possible. An experience renewing the links that the people of the cliffs had with this environment in the past …
This new space also highlights the natural beauty of the place and the peasant world. Many discoveries await you: vegetable garden, exhibition space (in a former tobacco dryer), farm animals, medicinal garden, bakery, cultivation of ancient wheat, etc.

Feed

The wheat produced on the farm is directly transformed into bread in front of you according to ancestral methods: with natural sourdough and baked in a wood oven.
The plants and vegetables from the garden can be eaten on site. They supply the dining area and the shop with local products.

Visits and Cultures

Visits in season

From March to August, the visit of this farm is done freely (30-40 min). On 20 hectares, a path punctuated by informative panels traverses the fields, the cliff and the edge of the river. In addition to the animals and cultivated plants, this soothing walk in a natural setting allows you to observe the biodiversity of the site.
From July 2022, an audioguide will allow you to walk through the farm while listening to the testimonies of the farmers of the region. An exciting immersion ! (only in french language)

Animations

Several activities are offered during the summer, for young and old: Excursion with donkeys on the troglodytic site to bring the snack to the children (Every monday 16h-17h in July-August)
Medicinal plants workshop in the garden, Thursday at 4 pm (registration required, July-August)
Animal feeding open to the public, from 9.30am to 10.30am daily (in July-August)
Pig feeding open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm (July-August)

The exhibition

The cultivation of tobacco is emblematic in the history of the Dordogne. Here, the tobacco dryer reinvents itself as an exhibition space in homage to the peasant world. The immersion takes place through numerous testimonies from former farmers, in the form of photo portraits, audio interviews, everyday objects. A real Madeleine de Proust, this tobacco dryer !
